Few dental practitioners have been more active in the field of implantology
than Dr. David M. Vassos. Over 15,000 dentists have attended
his courses and lectures in Canada, U.S.A., Mexico, Italy, Japan,
Korea, El Salvador, Guatemala, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Russia,
Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Hawaii. In Moscow and South
America he lectured at 3-day dental implant surgical and prosthetic
workshops and demonstrated actual surgical techniques during
the courses. Dr. Vassos has been a featured speaker of over
35 different symposiums and was the keynote speaker for the
Japanese Institute Advance Dentistry (J.I.A.D) in Osaka, Japan.
He received his D.D.S. from the University of Alberta Faculty of Dentistry
in 1963, and by 1969 he was working extensively with implants. Throughout
the years, he has helped to develop various implant systems.
He has authored
over thirty-five published articles on dental implantology
.
Dr. Vassos conducted a 10 year study on Immediate Loading, the results of which were presented at the Nobel Biocare World conference in Las Vegas, April 2003.
Dr. Vassos has also designed and developed a dental implant positioning system. A must for anyone placing dental implants.
Dr Vassos serves as a clinical advisor
to Nobel Biocare , Yorba
Linda, California. Along with Dr. A. Buchs of Orlando, Florida
and Dr. J. Hahn of Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Vassos conducted an extensive
five-year clinical implant study for Nobel Biocare. Since 1988,Dr. Vassos and his staff exclusively use the Nobel Biocare implant system, and since 2000 have been placing the Groovy implant which is coated with TiUnite® to the top.
TiUnite® has brought a new dimension to implant dentistry since its appearance in 2000.
The properties of TiUnite® allow for intimate interactions between the implant surface and the surrounding living cells and tissues. The enhanced osseointegration and firm anchorage in the surrounding tissues achieved with TiUnite® increases the predictability of implant treatment, especially in clinically demanding situations.
Rapid osseointegration.
The surface properties of TiUnite® stimulate bone growth directly on its surface. Bone formation follows the contours of the threads of the implant already during the early phase of healing indicating that TiUnite® is osseoconductive. This results in better maintained initial stability than in implants with a machine surface.
Immediate Function™
Maintained stability during the early healing phase, as experienced with TiUnite® implants, is a determining factor for clinical success. Conditions that were previously considered as great challenges can now be treated with high predictability using TiUnite® implants, also when applying immediate leading.
Soft Tissue Integration™
The soft tissues form a seal around the implant by attachment of the junctional epithelium. The cells of the latter form a firm, direct attachment to the TiUnite® surface via hemi-desmosomes, just as on natural teeth. On natural teeth the junctional epithelium enables by its permeable structure the peripheral immunological defense against microorganisms.
Predictable esthetics
Observations from clinical studies indicate that TiUnite® helps maintain the marginal been crest at a very high level and stabilizes the supracrestal soft tissues. Excellent esthetic results have repeatedly been observed with implants featuring TiUnite® at the transmucosal collar.
